Clay, Paint & Hands

In this two-hour introduction to clay, you’ll have all the tools and materials to make your ceramic creation with hands-on assistance from us. Learn the 3 fundamental hand-building techniques and find what works best for you. You can also choose to paint your piece with a selection of underglazes or let us glaze it in our house white glaze for you.

Get creative and have a good time!

Kids 12 & under will focus on pinching and coiling techniques as these are easier methods.

  • The course is an introduction to hand-building ceramics. You will learn the 3 Main Techniques of hand-building, including safe handling and use of tools, and hand-painting with underglazes.

    Included:

    approx. 700g stoneware clay
    Hand-building and sculpting tools
    Underglazes for painting
    Glazing by us optional
    Firing service

  • The glazing and firing process takes approximately 4-6 weeks (maximum) to complete. We will contact you to collect your pieces from the studio once they’re ready.​

    All pieces are perfectly safe to use in the microwave and dishwasher.

    Joining us whilst far from home? We can ship your piece to you at an additional cost. Let us know on the day of the workshop.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

    1. Wear clothes you’re ok to get dirty. Ceramics can be messy business.

    2. Wear enclosed shoes. The studio is a work environment so for safety please wear appropriate footwear.

    3. Short nails recommended. Feeling the clay you work with helps a lot, and cleaning under your nails will be easier.

    4. Bring your own drink and snacks. We have a kitchenette for water refills.

  • All of our classes are perfect for beginners and those looking to brush up on their skills, and create something fun and functional.

    All our workshops offer a safe and fun environment.

  • All of our materials are food safe, meaning you can use them at home safely. Also, they are dishwasher and microwave safe. We always recommend hand-washing to ensure you piece has a long and safe life.

  • Find us at Market Studio our shop & studio located at 131 Booth Street, Annandale 2038. The best bus route is the 470 Lilyfield to City Martin Place (or returning), stop Booth St at Young St (2 minute walk).

  • Classes and workshop tickets are not usually refundable.

    All notices must be submitted by email to airrmade@gmail.com. We do not accept other forms of contact as official cancellation.

    Please note, for the sake of fairness, we apply these rules strictly and with no exceptions

    Weekday classes (Monday-Thursday)

    48 hours prior to your class

    You may reschedule your class 48 hours before a weekday class. You may reschedule your class once only. Notice must be given before this timeframe via email. An additional week is required for groups of 4+. Notice must be given before this timeframe via EMAIL.

    Within 48 hours of your class, up to 4 hours before your class.

    Within the 48 hour window, we recognise that there may be exceptional circumstances, such as severe illness, where we may be able to issue a 50% rebooking code. This will allow you to rebook with a 50% discount on another class. This is at the discretion of management. This can be issued for up to 3 people. Notice must be given before this timeframe via EMAIL.

    Within 4 hours of your class.

    No exceptions. No refunds. No class credits. Thank you for respecting our clients and teams time, and honouring our strict 4-hour reschedule policy.

    You may transfer your booking to another person, if you're not able to make it at the last minute. Just let us know asap.

    Weekend classes (Friday- Sunday)

    72 hours prior to your class

    You may reschedule your class 72 hours before a weekend class. You may reschedule your class once only. Notice must be given before this timeframe via EMAIL. An additional week is required for groups of 4+. Notice must be given before this timeframe via EMAIL.
